Our overall vision is of a Belfast in which today's interface communities:
  • Are free of tension, intimidation and violence both within and between communities
  • Have come to terms with legacies of the past
  • Are socially and economically vibrant, within an attractive physical environment
  • Enjoy freedom of movement in accessing facilities and services
  • Have respect for cultural difference and diversity

Belfast Interface Project is a membership organisation which aims to support the development of creative approaches towards the regeneration of Belfast's interface areas, through:

  • Being proactive in linking and involving local communities in changing policy and in advocating for change that is of practical benefit to interface communities.
  • To be supportive of interface communities and to advocate with agencies and others in order to address issues of safety in interface communities and safe access to work and services, through improved relationships between communities, increased labour mobility and the development of shared services.
  • To be supportive of interface communities and to develop positive relationships by encouraging and enabling co-operation, promoting articulation and understanding of key issues involved in sharing and division, and providing support through change.
  • Ensuring that membership remains reflective of interface communities as changes occur and that the organisation is managed efficiently and effectively.

Established in 2004, Beyond Skin is an organisation which uses music, arts and media to assist in the building and development of cultural relations in Northern Ireland, with the overall aim of addressing issues of racism and sectarianism.

  • To address racism and sectarianism in Northern Ireland through multicultural arts
  • To promote positive attributes reflected from a society made up of different cultures
  • To promote multicultural arts for the benefit of the inhabitants of Northern Ireland

Policing

Criminal Justice
CAJ works to ensure that Northern Ireland’s criminal justice system complies with best practice and internationally recognised human rights standards.

Human Rights
CAJ works to ensure that human rights are adequately protected, promoted, defended and respected in Northern Ireland by ensuring that the government adheres to its human rights obligations.

Equality
CAJ works to ensure that the commitment in the Preamble to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that “all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights” is given practical effect in law and practice in Northern Ireland.

Dealing with the Past

Seeks to bridge the financial gap between starting integrated schools and securing full government funding and support for Integrated Education; aims to make integration, not separation, the norm in our education system through supporting the continued growth of integrated school places and by encouraging all schools to provide their pupils with the opportunity to engage meaningfully with children from different cultural and religious backgrounds in an environment that encourages them to achieve their full potential and proactively addresses and celebrates the different dimensions of diversity.
  • The IEF has operated various grant making programmes over this period, designed to support schools and groups which give equal recognition to and promote equal expression of the two main traditions in Northern Ireland, encouraging the development of understanding and respect.
  • PACT Programme: funds projects in schools to promote the development of skills, structures and relationships that enable schools, pupils and their parents, staff and governors and the wider community to increase their understanding, acceptance and respect for political, cultural and religious differences.

The Housing Council has a duty to advise the Minister on housing matters and to examine housing matters from a strategic perspective.
It is an advisory and consultative body considering any matter affecting housing referred to it by the Department for the Social Development or the Northern Ireland Housing Executive or any matter which appears to the Housing Council to be a matter pertinent to housing on the wider front.  While the Housing Council’s main business is with the Department for Social Development as the Department responsible for housing, and the Housing Executive as the strategic regional housing authority, the Housing Council may however consult with or be consulted by, other organisations on a wide range of housing-related matters.

UU Civic Leadership Couse

Advanced Diploma in Civic Leadership and Community Planning
The Northern Ireland Foundation has partnered up with the Ulster Business School at the University of Ulster, to support an exciting new advanced diploma course in Civic Leadership and Community Planning.

This innovative leadership development programme meets the need for a practical, accredited programme for key players involved in developing and implementing community planning.

The programme is for elected members and officers in district councils, officers in statutory agencies, and representatives from the community and voluntary sector.
